Hamsilos is a small inlet, 300 to 400 metres long, at the mouth of a little stream called the Deveci Deresi in Sinop province. Green forest surrounds the cove, and here the sea pushes inland as if it were a river. The Sinop culture and tourism directorate explains its shape as a ria: on the evidence of its landforms, the lower part of the Deveci valley subsided and was drowned by the sea.

- Across Sinop as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from 6.8 °C in February to 23.4 °C in August; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in May, June, July, August, September and October; rainfall is heaviest in December (92 mm) and lightest in July (34 mm). Long-term means for 1936-2025 from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
