Guide

What stands at Harran is part of a mosque, not a whole one: the east front, the mihrab, the ablution fountain and the greater part of the minaret have come down to the present. It sits on the north-east skirt of the Harran mound.

The mosque was built between AD 744 and 750 in the Umayyad period, by the caliph Marwan II, and the provincial directorate attaches four claims to it: the first monumental mosque built in Anatolia, the largest, the first with an arcaded courtyard, and the one with the richest stone decoration. It is also called the Cennet mosque. It is reached by car or by the district buses.
