Koca Meşe, the oak at Karacaözü, is a protected tree that the provincial directorate states is 550 years old and among the oldest oaks in the world. The village is in the Yapraklı district, 27 kilometres from the centre of Çankırı.
It is not the only registered monumental tree in the province: a plane tree at Müflis Tepesi in the central district, the Pasasultan in the Orta district, the Türbe and Gedene pines and the Kaba Mese at Eldivan, the Dokuzkardeşler pines at Çerkes and a great pine at Ilgaz all carry the same status.

- Across Çankırı as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from -0.4 °C in January to 23.1 °C in July; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in May, June, July, August and September; rainfall is heaviest in May (57 mm) and lightest in August (18 mm). Long-term means for 1929-2025 from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
