The mosque in the Çesme quarter of the old bazaar at Safranbolu was built for the grand vizier Köprülü Mehmet Paşa and reopened for worship in 2019, after some two and a half years of restoration.
It has no inscription of its own. The date 1661 appears on the seal of the Köprülü Mehmet Paşa endowment to which the mosque belongs, and the same year can be worked out from a handwritten Koran sent by the grand vizier; from these it was probably opened for worship in 1661. The building shows the features of the seventeenth century clearly. In its courtyard are an ablution fountain, a sundial, and a building put up to serve jointly as a library and as the timekeeper's room.
