The Lota lakes lie three kilometres east of the Hafik district of Sivas, north of the highway, about 45 kilometres from the provincial centre. They are deep and fed by springs rising from the bottom, and they hold various kinds of fish.
They are separate lakes for much of the year: when the spring rains begin they rise and run together. The source names the road they lie beside twice and differently — the Sivas-Erzurum road in the description, the Sivas-Erzincan road in the address.
