Mehmet Akif Ersoy, who wrote the words of the Turkish national anthem, spent the last six months of his life — from 16 June to 27 December 1936 — in a fourth-floor flat in the Mısır Apartment on İstiklal Caddesi, and died there. The flat was arranged as a memorial house and opened on 12 March 2021.
It is laid out in four parts: the Mehmet Akif library, a documentary room, a poetry room and an exhibition hall, showing his personal belongings and his books. The ministry states that it can be visited free of charge, every day of the week.
