Mercimekkale Höyüğü is an archaeological conservation site twenty-two kilometres north of the centre of Muş, on the east bank of the Murat river. It is one of twenty-eight mounds lying within the village of Mercimekkale.
Within the mound stands a castle of the Byzantine period, built for communication, postal and observation purposes.
The site is today entirely covered with earth, and no excavation is planned or under way.
It was first declared a first-degree conservation site on 27 June 1990 by decision 244 of the Van board for the protection of cultural property, and that status was continued by decision 1966 of 29 May 2018, following expert report 263602.
