The Meteorology Museum in the Keçiören district of Ankara is an institutional and science museum, belonging to the General Directorate of Meteorology and supervised by the Directorate of the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations. It was founded to show the development of meteorology in Türkiye in chronological order, and is one of the few meteorology museums in the world and the only one of its kind in the country.
It has two main galleries. The first shows written and visual historical documents; the second holds more than a hundred technological instruments and devices used in the science of meteorology.
The building has a history of its own. It was put up in 1908 for the School of Agriculture, today a faculty of Ankara University. During the Turkish War of Independence the Anadolu Ajansı, founded by Halide Edip Adıvar, began its work here, and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his companions later used the building as headquarters for six months. When the museum was founded, the room where Atatürk stayed and prepared his war plans was preserved with his desk, coal stove, carpet and other belongings, and set apart as the Atatürk Room.
