The Miniature Amasya Museum occupies the soup-kitchen building of the Bayezid II complex, and in a hall of about 300 square metres it rebuilds the Amasya of roughly a century ago at a scale of 1:150. The model was made from a photograph taken in 1914, and unlike most city models it was designed to show a living city rather than only its buildings and layout.
A visit takes about twenty minutes. Visitors move through it to quiet music and the sounds of the city, in an atmosphere built with light and colour, which is what the museum is trying to convey — what Amasya felt like a hundred years ago rather than simply what stood where. The museum is run by the provincial special administration, and photography and filming are allowed. It is in the city centre, within walking distance, on the municipal building side of the Bayezid II complex.
