Örenşehir is a neighbourhood in the İncesu district of Kayseri, and what makes it an archaeological site rather than simply a village is what lies around it. Caves, rock-cut tombs, and motifs carved into the cave walls indicate that the area was settled well back into the pre-Christian era.
The name also appears in the written record. In the census of 1520, the settlements around İncesu — Örenşehir among them, together with Kızılören, Boran kışlağı, Sürtme, Garipçe, Küllü and İmamlı — are listed as places inhabited by Yörük groups attached to the district of Karataş.
