Örenşehir is a neighbourhood in the İncesu district of Kayseri, and what makes it an archaeological site rather than simply a village is what lies around it. Caves, rock-cut tombs, and motifs carved into the cave walls indicate that the area was settled well back into the pre-Christian era.
The name also appears in the written record. In the census of 1520, the settlements around İncesu — Örenşehir among them, together with Kızılören, Boran kışlağı, Sürtme, Garipçe, Küllü and İmamlı — are listed as places inhabited by Yörük groups attached to the district of Karataş. The Governorship of Kayseri's account of İncesu says no more about the site than this, and neither does this page.
