Şeytan Sofrası, the devil's table, stands on the commanding rocky heights eight kilometres south of the centre of Ayvalık. From here the whole of the Ayvalık islands and the island of Lesbos can be seen.
It is an old deposit of lava on which a mark believed to be the devil's footprint is found; people throw coins there and make a wish.
The hill was formed out of lava left by an extinct volcano and takes a rounded form recalling a table. The shape resembling a footprint has been enclosed in an iron cage and is one of the things visitors come for, along with the sunset. The site is privately run and there is a restaurant on the hill.
The area was declared a wetland of local importance on 24 January 2017, and Şeytan Sofrası covers seventeen hectares in all.
On 3 July 2006 a forest fire that began in the Çamlık area and spread to Şeytan Sofrası damaged three hundred hectares of pine woodland. Three firefighting aircraft of the armed forces from Antalya and one helicopter of the forestry administration fought the fire, which was brought under control only with difficulty because of the strong north-easterly wind.
