Our compilation for the old quarter of Ankara, not an official route. The stops were chosen by how close they stand to Ulus square, because the district field in our inventory is empty for most Ankara records and a district-based selection would have missed nearly all of them.
The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations is the reason most visitors come up here, and it holds material from sites across the country rather than from Ankara alone. The Roma Hamamı and Hacı Bayram Veli Camii stand a short distance from it and belong to the city that was here long before the republican capital was laid out.
The rest is a capital looking at its own recent past within a few streets of one another: the Cumhuriyet Müzesi and the Türkiye İş Bankası İktisadi Bağımsızlık Müzesi around Ulus square, Ankara Palas beside them, the Etnografya Müzesi on the hill above, and the prison museum at Ulucanlar further east.
