Our compilation for Cappadocia, not an official itinerary. The stops are spread across the province rather than gathered in one town: the northernmost and the southernmost lie about forty kilometres apart, and that distance is what the route has to work around.
The first group belongs to the rock landscape around Göreme — the open-air museum and the national park that contains it stand side by side, and the churches at Gülşehir and Ürgüp are cut into the same kind of tuff further out.
The other group goes underground. Kaymaklı and Derinkuyu are the two underground cities in our inventory, about eight kilometres apart on the southern road. They are slow to visit and neither is near the Göreme cluster, which is why this route is not a single day.
No driving times are given anywhere in this guide, because we have no road data and a straight-line distance is not a driving time. What each place is, when it was last checked and which source says so is on its own page.
