Nebiyan Dağı and its forests lie on the ridges of the 19 Mayıs district, twenty kilometres south of the district centre, and the landscape holds up in every season. The Nebiyan yayla on its upper slopes carries the typical character of a Black Sea summer pasture, and the forests below are endless stands of beech.
What is done here runs through the year: walking, mountain biking, paragliding and off-road driving. The area also suits mountain tourism.
The Galeriç flooded forest and its bird sanctuary are the other draw for anyone who wants to be alone with the place. Wild horses live there, buffalo take mud baths in the standing water, and hundreds of bird species use it. Trout farms have been set up beside the streams fed by the cold mountain water, and there are huts and shelters in the forest where visitors can cook their own food.
The area carries an official status. On the proposal of the ministry, and under the regulation on the designation of culture and tourism conservation and development regions and tourism centres, the Nebiyan area of the 19 Mayıs district of Samsun was declared a Tourism Centre by a decision of the Council of Ministers dated 26 September 2011, published in the official gazette on 23 October 2011.
