Adıyaman Museum stands on Atatürk Bulvarı in the city centre. It holds 30,302 works in all: 9,313 archaeological, 512 ethnographic, 19,176 coins, two tablets, 1,282 seals and seal impressions, one fossil, and sixteen medallions and decorations. Of these, 1,125 are displayed in the exhibition hall.
Work on the museum began in 1978, and it moved to its present modern building in 1982. It is divided into archaeological and ethnographic sections. Besides works of the Ottoman, Seljuk, Byzantine, Islamic, Roman and Hellenistic periods, there is material reaching back to the Palaeolithic. The ethnographic section shows clothing, jewellery, weaving and metal household objects of Adıyaman and the districts around it.
When to go
The museum is open to visitors every day except Monday, from 8.00 to 12.00 and from 13.30 to 17.30.
