Before planning a visit: the church of Mor Petrus and Mor Paulus in Adıyaman was destroyed in the earthquake of 2023 and comprehensive restoration work is under way. The church, also known as St Paul's, stands in the centre of the city and is used by the Syriac Orthodox community; it is thought to have been built in the fourth or fifth century.
The building runs east to west on a three-aisled basilica plan. According to the Syriac inscriptions over the entrance and inside, it was repaired in 1888 and 1905. The wooden altar within the apse was made in 1890 by Syriac craftsmen from Urfa, and the upper floor of the narthex at the west opens into the interior.
