The Ankara Kent Müzesi is not a separate building but one of the functions of the Ankara Konağı, the headquarters of the Ankara Kulübü Derneği. The association describes the konak as serving also as a city museum, where objects, pictures and photographs relating to Ankara are displayed.
What is kept alive here is the local rather than the national: the seymen tradition and the spirit of 27 December above all, along with the historical values, local characteristics, customs, ethnography, handicrafts and cooking of Ankara and its people.
The konak holds a good deal besides the collection — the association's head office, centres for Ankara studies, the offices of Ankara foundations and district associations, the office of the Başkent Ankara magazine, a restaurant serving the food of Ankara, a shop of local gifts, halls for henna nights, weddings and meetings, a garden and terraces looking over the city.
