Guide

Geyiklidağ Ilıcası, 4 km from the centre of Bergama, is said to have been founded in the reign of King Eumenes of Pergamon and kept its fame for centuries as the 'Baths of Asclepius'. Also called the Beauty Spring, it has a domed bathhouse with two marble pools, set in a wooded area beside a hotel and bungalows run by Bergama Municipality. The water, at around 35°C, contains sodium bicarbonate and sulphate and is notably radioactive, at 1.5 eman.

The İzmir directorate of culture and tourism lists it as good for rheumatism, heart conditions, neurasthenia, skin diseases and mental fatigue. A widely held belief that it beautifies oily and seborrhoeic skin lies behind the story that Cleopatra came to Bergama and bathed here to grow more beautiful.
