Hacı Adil Bey, one of Edirne's governors, built this fountain in 1904 in memory of a son who died young. It is the best preserved fountain in the city centre: a square mass on a plain base reached by three steps, 5.20 metres high and 4.75 metres wide, with all four faces composed alike.

The style is Baroque, and the design was drawn by Sadrettin Bey, director of the Edirne foundations administration, together with Dr. Rıfat Osman. Some sources record that a couplet by the Üsküdar poet Alaaddin once stood on the fountain wall, and that it was most likely destroyed during the Greek occupation.
