The Hamiye Çolakoğlu Ceramics Museum in Ankara is a museum of ceramics and of a life. Founded within the Faculty of Fine Arts of Hacettepe University, it stands in the building of the Ankara State Conservatory on the Beytepe campus. It holds the status of a private museum and works under the Directorate of the Ankara Ethnography Museum. Besides ceramic works made by Hamiye Çolakoğlu, it displays documents on her life and her personal belongings.
This is the second museum founded within Hacettepe University. It carries the name of Hamiye Çolakoğlu, who founded the ceramics department under the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1983 and went on teaching and working there until she retired. Her works on the Beytepe campus include the Derman Fountain and the Abstract Human Monument, and she also produced important work at Bilkent University; the museum sets out to keep the name of an artist who became a figure of standing for Ankara alive in this way.
