The Museum of Words is a modern museum of language founded in Ankara in 2022, the first of its kind in Türkiye. It was founded by the writer Şermin Yaşar to teach children and young people the meanings of Turkish words, proverbs and idioms, and opened on 26 September 2022, the day the Language Festival is kept. It works in the form of a living museum, and the works displayed change from period to period.
It stands in the Altındağ district beside Ankara castle, opposite the Museum of Anatolian Civilisations, in a historic four-storey building of coursed stone that was used in past years as a mohair store.
Words are presented through exhibitions and installations in which they meet art, visual design and feeling. The lowest floor is given to roots, the entrance floor to words, and the top floor to sentences. The museum also holds a three-dimensional digital sculpture of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, made by the Iranian artist Hadi Karemi.
