Kazdağı Fir Nature Conservation Area lies on Mount Ida in Edremit district of Balıkesir province, and unlike most areas in its category it is open to being walked: photo safari, botanical excursions, walking and trekking are the activities the directorate lists. There are no facilities of any kind. It was declared on 15 June 1988 under National Parks Law no. 2873, with the area given as 258 hectares in the record and 254.17 in the text.
What is protected is the Kazdağı fir, Abies nordmanniana subsp. equi-trojani, endemic and endangered. The directorate describes the site's value as that fir's presence in a forest ecosystem it calls unmatched, together with the potential of the wildlife around it, all resting on the geological and physical character of Mount Ida.
Kazdağı fir, black pine and oriental beech are the main trees. Deer, roe deer, wild boar, brown bear, wolf and jackal are the animals recorded.
The approach from Edremit runs through Zeytinli and the Mehmetalan quarter and then about 20 kilometres of mountain road. The directorate notes that it accepts no responsibility for anything visitors may experience on the way to the area or afterwards.
