The Merinos plant in Bursa was a yarn and cloth factory opened by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and was among the largest investments not only in the city but in the country. It was founded as a weaving factory in 1938.
Its power station is what the museum preserves. Built with the German technology of the day, the plant was equipped to supply the factory's own electricity and, when needed, to carry part of Bursa's supply as well. That system has been opened to the public within the discipline of a museum rather than removed, so what is on show is the machinery in its own building.
The museum stands in Merinos Park in the Osmangazi district, reached by metro and by buses along Ulubatlı Hasan Bulvarı.
