The national park lies within Şavşat district, 17 kilometres from the town on the Şavşat-Ardahan road. Our inventory gives the name as Sahara-Karagöl, the provincial directorate as Karagöl-Sahara.
Its forest cover is spruce and fir. Alpine zone species are found at and around the Kocabey plateau.
For a national park the page is unusually thin: it records no declaration date, no area, no facilities and no visiting arrangements. Our inventory separately holds Şavşat Karagöl, a lake of eight to ten hectares reached by unsurfaced road; that is not this park.
