Sirkeli Höyük is a mound beside the Ceyhan river in the village of Sirkeli, on the old road between Misis and Ceyhan, and right next to it a rock outcrop carries the relief of the Hittite king Muvattali. The story attached to the spot is that Muvattali passed this way on his march to fight Ramses at Kadeş, and that afterwards the Hittites held the place to be sacred.
The mound covers about 20 hectares. The first excavations here were in 1936.
