The ancient city of Magarsus lies in the district of Karataş, forty-nine kilometres from Adana. Its important remains are the amphitheatre and the temples of Athena, which belong to the Hellenistic period. Two Ottoman buildings also stand here, one a han and the other a post station.
Besides the ancient site, the bird sanctuary on Akyatan lake is worth seeing. Akyatan is a lagoon, and both the loggerhead turtle and the green turtle are found there.
The district also has the Tuzla and Karataş fish weirs, where a variety of fish are caught.
Minibuses run to Karataş from the centre of Adana.
