Guide

The most important historic building in Şeyhler is the mosque known today as the Şeyh Müslihiddin Mosque, which gave the sub-district its name. The directorate reports it as built in the fourteenth century by Şeyh Müslihiddin of the Ahi brotherhood.

The endowment deed of 1486 held in the archive of the directorate general of foundations, in register 1767, shows the mosque among the buildings founded by Müslihiddin Mustafa bin Cüneyd, known as Hacı Kıssahan, and describes it as a mosque with a zaviye attached.

The inscription on the fountain that Kaymaslı Mehmed Ağa had built for the mosque in 1820 shows that the building was repaired in the first quarter of the nineteenth century.

The land on which the new mosque, the schools and the houses of the village teacher and the imam stand, together with the villagers' fields, most likely belongs to the foundation of Kıssahan El-Hac Muslihuddin Mustafa bin Cüneyt. Around the mosque lie a graveyard, fields and a stream.

The mosque is rectangular in plan and ornamented with Empire-style motifs. The spaces between its beams are filled with logs, and the logs faced with thin, even boards. It is entirely of wood inside and out, on stone foundations. The women's gallery is U-shaped, and there are two doors, one on the front and one on the right. The building stands within an old graveyard and has been restored. The road to it is asphalt and it can be visited in any season.
