The stone bridge over the Seyhan river joins the districts of Seyhan and Yüreğir and is one of the great emblems of Adana.
According to its inscription, now in the Adana Archaeological Museum, the bridge is seventeen hundred years old and was built in the Roman imperial period by an architect named Auxentios. The provincial directorate calls it the oldest bridge in the world still in use.
After a repair in 2006 the bridge was closed to motor traffic.
It is 319 metres long and 11.4 metres wide. Of its twenty-one round arches, fourteen can be seen today.
The bridge lies 3.7 kilometres from the new government building of Adana and is reached from the city centre by ordinary public transport.
