The Varda Bridge stands in the Hacıkırı, or Kıralan, quarter of the Karaisalı district of Adana, and is called Koca Köprü, the great bridge, by the people of the district. It is also known as the Hacıkırı railway bridge, and as the German bridge because it was built by Germans in 1912.
It was built in steel lattice with stone masonry and came into service in 1912. Its purpose was to complete the İstanbul–Baghdad–Hejaz railway line, and it lies within the boundaries of the sixth region of the network.
By road the bridge is sixty-four kilometres from Adana by way of Karaisalı, and by rail sixty-three kilometres from Adana station.
