Ulubey Canyon lies within the Ulubey district of Uşak and was declared a nature park by the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs on 27 June 2013. The source records it as the second largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
The canyon was shaped by tectonic movement over a period running from the end of the Tertiary to the beginning of the Quaternary, and the ground now has the horst-and-graben form found across the Aegean region. The subsidence of the Büyük Menderes graben is connected with the canyon's formation through karstic processes: erosion began with at least three episodes of subsidence in that graben, and deep meandering valleys formed along the courses taken by the Ulubey stream and the Banaz river.
