This is our own compilation for Nevşehir, not an official route. The stops were chosen by measured interest, and in this province that choice is easy: the rock-cut churches, the underground cities and the open-air museum are among the most looked-up places in the country.
Hacıbektaş lies well to the north of the rest, far enough to be a trip of its own rather than something added to another morning.
The heart of the region is tight: the Göreme Open-Air Museum and the Göreme National Park around it sit close together, with the church of Saint Theodore and Sobessos south-east of them in the Ürgüp district, and Nevşehir castle above the provincial town to the west.
Derinkuyu and Kaymaklı, the two underground cities here, are south of Nevşehir and close together. Distances in this province are short but the ground is not flat, and this page gives no travel times: a kilometre in a valley and a kilometre on the highway are not the same kilometre.
