Ali Ağa's poplar is one of the older trees on the state's protected list: the Directorate General of Nature Conservation and National Parks puts its age at 500 years. It stands 30 metres tall, with a trunk 1.55 metres across and a girth of 4.85 metres, and it was declared a natural monument on 26 June 1995.
The listing is a bare one. The directorate records the measurements and the province, Gümüşhane, and nothing else — no district, no approach road, no visiting hours, no visitor capacity. Anyone planning to find the tree should expect to ask locally, and to ask the provincial branch of the directorate first.
