According to the inscription over the entrance the mosque was built by Ayşe Hatun, daughter of Çelebi Sultan Mehmed; the architect is thought to have been Hayreddin. It was repaired in 2011.
It is square in plan and built of regular cut stone, covered by a dome resting on a high octagonal drum. The dome is raised higher than classical proportions would have it, and squinches carry the transition. The building reads in three parts: body, drum and dome.
