Kepez Municipality took the administration building of the old textile works in Dokuma Park and turned it into a city museum for Antalya. The subject is the city from its founding to the present, and the building's own industrial past is part of that story.
The method is what distinguishes it: rather than the usual museum arrangement, the milestones of the city's history are told through the stories of individual people. The subjects run wide — nature, history, archaeology, tourism, traditional architecture and cooking, Yörük culture, transport and communications, festivals, education, health, sport, art, trade and industry, and the figures who shaped the place. They are presented through traditional objects, works of art, ephemera and displays built around technology.
The museum occupies 25 rooms over two floors. Live guided tours run on the hour, and audio guides are available in six languages for those who would rather go round alone.
