The museum is at Kocatepe Sokak No 25 in Kaleiçi, the walled old town at the heart of Antalya, and consists of two registered historic buildings. Suna and İnan Kıraç bought them, had them carefully restored between 1993 and 1995, and opened them to visitors as a private museum.
The first is a nineteenth-century Antalya house of the traditional kind, two storeys with an outer hall. It is arranged as an ethnographic museum showing scenes from Kaleiçi life in the second half of that century, staged with figures and special effects: the serving of coffee, the shaving of the bridegroom, the henna night — occasions rather than objects.
The second building stands in the garden and is the church of Agios Georgios, Aya Yorgi, Orthodox and repaired in 1863. It is rectangular, a single vaulted space, with painted decoration on the inner walls and ceiling. Since the restoration it has served as an exhibition space: a large collection of Çanakkale ceramics fills the main hall, while the upper level takes changing exhibitions on themes connected with the cultures of the region.
