The Biodiversity Museum, known as BİYOSFER, opened on the Beytepe campus of Hacettepe University on 22 May 2023, the International Day for Biological Diversity. The university describes it as the most comprehensive museum of its kind in Türkiye.
Its subject is the journey of species and genes through the biosphere, presented through examples of the country's own biological diversity.
It is not a display built on its own. The museum came out of a project begun in early 2009 under the name Nature Conservation and Biological Diversity Education and Research Centre, and the director of the Biological Diversity Research and Application Centre described the aim as a reference centre that carries out research, conservation, education and exhibition together, shaped by what the country and its international commitments require.
