Durasan Şah Tabiat Parkı covers 145.87 hectares at the Yazlık Sırtı locality near Tekke village in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara, declared in late April 2018 — the Directorate's record gives 1 May in its data fields and 25 April in its text. Before planning a visit, note what the page states plainly: no facility has been begun on the site, and no activity takes place there.
The ground is volcanic, formed in the Miocene of the Tertiary and made up of andesite and andesite tuff. Relief is gentle, with a good deal of open and level ground inside the boundary, and the average altitude is 1,450 metres.
What gives the park its weight is the birds. It is an area where the cinereous vulture and the Egyptian vulture occur, both endangered and both protected under national and international agreements. Other animals observed here include the banded newt, tree frog, common toad, Kotschy's gecko, spur-thighed tortoise and worm snake, with coal tit, chaffinch, common buzzard, siskin, magpie and song thrush among the birds.
The vegetation is black pine and juniper with downy and Türkiye oak, laurel-leaved rockrose, white and grey willow, black poplar and Norway maple, and beneath them a long list of herbs including the Ankara crocus, the Abant crocus, foxglove, wild strawberry, dog rose, elder, guelder rose, field eryngo, yarrow, knapweed, daisy, primrose, cyclamen and St John's wort. The site is 55 kilometres from Ankara, 10 from Kazan and 46 from Kızılcahamam, and is reached only by private vehicle; of the road from Kazan, 8 kilometres are asphalt and 2 unsurfaced.
