Edirne is a significant centre of vernacular architecture. Kiosks, mansions and specially decorated wooden houses survive here, along with a good many works decorated in the particular manner known as Edirnekari.
The quarter to walk is Kaleiçi, with its narrow streets and its old houses standing among the historic remains — a district that has come down from the Middle Ages still lived in. It is in the city centre.
