The oldest camera here dates from 1876, and the line runs unbroken from there to the digital present: bellows cameras, then film, then the recent ones. Malatya Metropolitan Municipality assembled the collection in 2017, and the provincial government's account puts it at 2,023 cameras with more than three thousand accessories.
Some are odd rather than old — one is worked in gold leaf, and another, a so-called spy camera, is thought to have been used in wartime. The section of spy and detective cameras is, by the province's account, the part visitors linger at. The museum stands on Sanat Sokağı, close enough to the metropolitan municipality building to walk.
