One of the houses on Sinema Caddesi known as the Beşkonaklar, the five mansions, serves as the ethnography museum. The house, which has a garden, dates from the second half of the 1930s. It is of two storeys and built of mudbrick. The hall on the lower floor opens onto a rectangular courtyard, and to right and left of it are three rooms, a hearth room and a kitchen.
The Malatya Ethnography Museum occupies two of the historic Beşkonaklar in the city centre, and between the house itself and the collection it holds it takes visitors on a journey through the history of Malatya that is as instructive as it is enjoyable.
On display are everyday objects of the Ottoman and Republican periods: local dress, men's accessories, purses for money and for watches, watches, women's accessories and jewellery, handwork, kitchen tools and vessels, weapons, farming and weaving implements, measures and scales, lamps, seals, locks, door knockers and musical instruments.
The museum is in the city centre and within walking distance. It was damaged in the earthquake of 6 February 2023 and is closed to visitors while repairs are carried out.
