The park changed its name for a practical reason: the old form, Kurugöl, was causing misunderstandings — and with visitor numbers rising and the boundary drawn along natural lines, the ministry renamed it Korugöl by decision of December 2021.
It covers 30.78 hectares across the central and Kaynaşlı districts of Düzce, registered as a picnic ground in January 2004 and as a nature park on 11 July 2011. It is reached from the Ankara-İstanbul D-100 road by the turning at Üçköprü village, the last four kilometres surfaced. Capacity is given as 330 visitors and 80 vehicles.
