The Melodere spruce grows inside Hatıla Valley National Park, at the Melodere locality in Taşlıca village in the central district of Artvin.
It was declared a natural monument on 6 September 2002, on 1,000 square metres. The tree is an oriental spruce, Picea orientalis, about 150 years old, 30 metres tall, 0.76 metres in trunk diameter and 2.40 metres in girth.

- Across Artvin as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from 2.8 °C in January to 21.3 °C in August; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in May, June, July, August and September; rainfall is heaviest in December (87 mm) and lightest in August (29 mm). Long-term means for 1949-2025 from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
