The Mızık pine — also called the Beşik pine, the cradle pine — stands within the boundaries of Domurköy in the Domaniç district of Kütahya, 3.1 kilometres from the town. It was declared a natural monument on 12 July 1993.
Anyone going to see it should know its condition. The tree lived until 1980 and stood as a standing dead trunk until 1988; on 27 October that year a severe wind brought it down at the root. It is now kept lying on concrete supports, held clear of the ground.
It is a black pine, and its age was established in 1980 by Prof. Burhan Aytuğ as 743 years. It measures 1.5 metres around and 11 metres long. Tradition holds that Hayme Ana, grandmother of Osman Bey, founder of the Ottoman dynasty, hung a cradle from its branches when he was a baby and sang to him there. Local people have long protected the tree, out of respect for that history and out of a belief that whoever burned a piece of its fallen wood at home would see their house burn; it is held sacred in the district.
