Musaözü was a picnic ground before it was declared a nature park on 11 July 2011, and what it is used for has not changed: the people of Eskişehir come here to rest, picnic and pass the day, with the pond at its centre.
It covers 129 hectares at Musaözü in the Tepebaşı district, 21 kilometres from Eskişehir and 1.51 from the village itself, reached by surfaced road. It has capacity for 2,140 visitors, 100 vehicles and 36 tents.
One practical warning from the Directorate General of Nature Conservation and National Parks: municipal buses do serve the quarters and reach the park, but the number of runs is not enough. The park is 29 kilometres from Eskişehir Hasan Polatkan airport, 23 from the railway station and five from the Eskişehir-Kütahya road, the D230.
The pond at the centre is a dam lake, and the Directorate General of Nature Conservation and National Parks says this ecosystem has been in operation since 1969; reed beds have formed here and there, especially on its western side. The trees around it are oak, black pine, cedar of Lebanon and cypress, with juniper, rock rose, bramble, blackthorn and various grasses beneath them, and the shrub and herb layer also holds hawthorn, cornelian cherry, dog rose, rowan, mullein and fescue. Beyond picnicking, the day-use areas support walking, sport angling and cycling, and there are grounds for tent camping and for caravans.
