The museum of natural history at Cumhuriyet University holds some four thousand items, running from geological specimens and fossils to plants and to the creatures of wetland and dry-land ecosystems.
Most of what is shown comes from the country around Sivas, but there are pieces from elsewhere in Türkiye and from abroad as well.
The museum was set up in 2017. Its aim is to show students and the public the geological and biological diversity of Sivas and of the whole country, and to instil a love of the natural world.
It is, in the directorate's account, the first museum in Türkiye founded under a research centre, and the fossils in it, millions of years old, draw a good deal of attention.
