Guide
The Great Mosque of Kahramanmaraş was built, according to the endowment deeds, between 1442 and 1454 by Süleyman Bey, ruler of the Dulkadirid beylik, and repaired in 1501 by his son Alauddevle. It belongs to the group of mosques with wooden ceilings, and consists of a prayer hall measuring 22 by 40.90 metres outside, a porch of 5.30 by 40.90 metres, and a minaret with a single balcony.
Rough-dressed and rubble stone were used in the facade walls, which are reinforced with timber tie beams. The mosque carries the features of the architecture of the beyliks and of the early Anatolian Seljuk period, and the decoration to look at is on the minaret, the portal, the mihrab and the minbar. It is on Atatürk Bulvarı in the Kurtuluş quarter.
