The Tigris has changed its bed since this bridge was built, and the bridge now lies within the borders of Syria. It is a ruin: only the great arch and some of its piers are sound.
It was built in the twelfth century, in the Seljuk period, by the Atabegs of Mosul, at Cizre.

- Across Şırnak as a whole, monthly mean temperatures run from 2.6 °C in January to 29.2 °C in July; the mean stays between 15 and 25 °C in May, June, September and October; rainfall is heaviest in March (120 mm) and lightest in August (1 mm). Long-term means for 1970-2025 from the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
