Our compilation for Düzce, not an official route. One entry on it is not a place at all: Yığılca to Yedigöller is a road, surfaced and signed by the provincial governorship, that can be driven or walked through the Küçük Melen valley. A reader expecting a single site should know what it is.
The coast is one group. Akçakoca holds the old town houses — around a hundred and sixty of them protected as a conservation area, in three distinct forms depending on when and by whom they were built — and, inland from the town, the Aktaş waterfall at the end of a marked walking path. Konuralp, just above Düzce, holds Prusias ad Hypium, founded as Kieros and renamed by a Bithynian king.
The rest is water in the hills south of the city and can be taken as one outing: the Samandere falls, a registered natural monument with cascades and rock hollows around them; the Aydınpınar falls, which the provincial directorate rates among the finest of their kind in the country; Korugöl, renamed from Kurugöl because the old form caused misunderstandings; and Torkul, a small pond formed by a volcanic collapse inside the pasture of the same name. Kardüz, high above Gölyaka, is the outlier — one of the highest places in the province, put forward as a candidate for winter tourism rather than as a ski centre.
