Our compilation for İstanbul, not an official itinerary. The city is too large for proximity alone to order a route, so the stops are grouped by where they stand: the Bosphorus shores first, then the historic peninsula.
The Bosphorus group runs from the fortress at Rumeli down the European shore to Dolmabahçe, with Beylerbeyi facing it from the Asian side and the Maiden's Tower in the water between them. These are palaces and fortifications, and the crossings between them are by bridge or boat.
The peninsula group is the opposite: Topkapı, Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern, the Great Palace mosaics and the Sultan Ahmed mosque all stand within a few hundred metres of one another, and Süleymaniye and the Galata tower are a short distance beyond.
No walking or driving times are given anywhere in this guide, because we have no road data and a straight-line distance is not a travel time. What each place is, when it was last checked and which source says so is on its own page.
