The Gölemezli thermal tourism area adjoins the Pamukkale specially protected environmental area on its northwest side, taking in the settlements of Gölemezli, Cesmebasi and Kavakbasi in the Pamukkale district, together with the southwestern parts, outside the built-up areas, of Belenardıç, Haytabey and Eymir. Greenhouse farming heated by geothermal energy is carried on here.
There are four geothermal sources recorded by the MTA, and they differ from one another in character; one of them is used as a mud bath. Their temperatures run between 35 and 60 degrees, and the waters contain carbon dioxide, sulphate, sodium and calcium. The area lies west of the Pamukkale archaeological site, 25 kilometres from Denizli; follow the road continuing west from Pamukkale, or take a minibus from the Denizli bus station to Akköy and the nearby settlements.
